‎40 years ago this evening I proposed to Susan on the dock at the Kirkland Marina as the sun set in the West. (I wanted all the help I could get, and the setting seemed romantic.) We’re pretty sure I asked in a lovely way, and pretty sure she said yes, but neither one of us can actually remember what either of us said. Best idea I ever had!

After we had agreed to wed, we returned to the car and the flowers and poem I had stashed behind the seat – and then off to dinner at a nice restaurant. Word of advice to the young and in love – always propose BEFORE going out to dinner – if your intended says no you can at least save a lot of money!   🙂

Years later at another fine restaurant we watched the couple at the table next to us do it all wrong. The young man proposed before the food was served – and the young lady said no.  There was a lot of appalling silence as they picked over a very expensive meal and gradually got drunk. Just about the saddest thing I have ever seen!

Be happy!
