The end of Trump. Now what?

What Happens After Trump

Donald Trump is the worst human being I have learned about in my life time.  It seems that he learned of the actions of the worst Americans over the past two hundred years or so, (Senator McCarthy, Richard Nixon, Al Capone, etc.) and thought “hold my beer.”

But now, as surely as ice melts on a sidewalk in August, it is all starting to collapse. This week’s FBI raid is big, but it is not the end, and I don’t really care how it comes out.  But it will end, of that I am sure.

I am interested in what may be his legacy.  Not the several book shelves’ worth of his misdeeds, which will be written, but potential upsides he could not imagine.

In every country, in every century, there are men and women who have inspired others.  Especially young adults thinking about what they want to do in life.

President Kennedy said “Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.” This had a tsunami of effects on young people at the time. Thousands of young people set forth to make a positive impact on the world they were to inherit. Think of the Peace Corps, for example.  Many young people, like me, became teachers.

So now, what do you think will happen as the Trump era rots from the inside out?

If you were a young adult forming ideas about what you want to do with your life, you might want to seek a career in the FBI, or at least the Justice Department. You might decide that politics would be a place where you could make a positive impact. You might realize that teachers do not need to be reformed, but the materials they are allowed to teach need to be bettered.  You might go into journalism. You might want to become an attorney and hope to provide better counsel to those who need help.

Many positive choices.  Which will be yours?
