How to Customize Your Fiat 500 Sport

Picked up our new 500 Sport in the deep metallic red last August. There was a problem at delivery – a scratch in the roof. No problem; “the airbrush guy will take care of it in a week.”  Problem – scratch was actually a gouge that was too deep for an airbrush repair. “No problem, we’ll have that panel (behind the power sun roof) painted to match.”  You can’t match metallic red paint. “Yes we can.”

No they can’t.

Five months later it goes in for the first oil change, (because the car told me it needed one), and the service manager asked me how the car was doing. I said it was great, but I was still not happy with the roof. He looked at it and said “It’s not the same color!” Well, yeah.

To my surprise, they offered to have their paint shop try again, and this time I suggested that instead of painting that panel and trying to match the metallic red, to just paint it gloss black to match the glass in the sunroof. Painter thought that was a brilliant idea, and opined that they should have come that way from the factory.

Now it is back, and I am finally a happy customer. It looks SO COOL with the roof black glass and then black gloss all the way back to the hatch. The roof spoiler is still red. If you want to see pics, send me an e-mail to team@ridewest.com.

So – if you screw up the roof of a 500 Sport with the power sunroof, I recommend black!
